I have found that the most fruitful approach is to have an introductory session with year 7, in the context of exploring world religions.

We try to explain that the fundamental idea of Quakerism is that there is something of God in everyone, and that Quakers try to behave at all times as if that were the case, regardless of provocation and apparent evidence to the contrary. We soon get into discussing the testimonies, and we have found the SPICES formulation very useful.

that sounds a bit passive to me, but I expect I am misinterpreting what happens in your school. We try very hard to think of situations that might occur in school which illustrate the testimonies. For example: bullying. We get our year 7s to role play a bullying episode, and then to discuss in small groups what the testimonies have to say to help with handling such situations. Do you do anything like this? What do others do?

The need for values of respect, concern for all and looking for the potential in all people can permeate school culture through the introduction of a restorative culture  starting from the staff. Without living the values it will be difficult to expect change and involvement of the students. There is much experience of working with these ideas now and much can be learned through the process.
